To Korea

Just came back from Korea. We were suppose to go Shanghai for the Expo but ended up going to Korea instead.I am so exhausted but it was nice to experience what life is like there.

It was a 6 days 5nights tour,Wednesday until Monday. There were 24 of us consisting of 6 families. We departed by bus to Penang International Airport and then by Cathay Pacific Airlines to Hong Kong and finally Incheon. The total flight duration was approximately 6 hours.Weather in Korea was not as cold as i thought it would be and it was raining for almost 4 days.Luckily on the day where we were suppose to shop on the market,it was sunny for awhile.

Food in Korea is just okay. They are more towards the healthy eating lifestyle. Most of the food are prepared naturally, without much seasoning. We had steamboat, barbecue, something like fried 'kueh-kak' (for me,that was horrible,i didn't like the taste of the chilli paste) and Chinese food on the last night. The food that i enjoyed the most was the Korean BBQ.That was really nice cos it was the first time i ate so much meat and didn't feel 'geli'.The famous kimchi...only had it on the first two days though it was served at every meal for five days. After the second day,my tummy can no longer tolerate it.So,you can guess what was the first thing we did after reaching Malaysia...straight to have CURRY MEE.

Hotels in Korea have doors opening..(in or out)..um..the opposite from Malaysia.Instead of pushing the door open after unlocking it,we had to pull it.So,have to be careful when walking along the corridors. There is only one hotel which i enjoyed staying the most. That is the Daemyung Resort. We got to experience what we usually see in the Korean dramas. There was no bed, only mattress and the pillow is rectangular and hard.It was fun but uncomfortable.Because the tour booked the suite,we had a kitchen equipped with stove, pots and pans, plate, bowl and cups and a living room in the room.We cooked Malaysian instant noodles, drank Milo, ate snacks and the older adults drank beer bought from a store at the hotel.Had a great time that night.

Tour guide told us that people in Korea buy cars usually in only three colours.Either black, grey or white. They were basic colours and i felt that in Malaysia we have quite a lot of cars with those colours too.One night, when we were crawling in a jam,i started realising that, yes in Malaysia there are many, but in Korea almost ALL the cars are those colours.I can say the majority is around 90%.I tried to spot for cars with other colours and it was after some time that i saw a red car.It is amazing but boring at the same time to pass by cars after cars looking the same as the other.

I am too lazy to describe the places that we visited so shall just list them.

  • National Folklore Museum
  • Gyeongbokgung Palace
  • Nami Island
  • Lavender Garden or Herb Nara
  • Mt. Seorak National Park
  • Wawoo Jongsa Temple
  • Yeoju Premium Outlet

Korea is so famous for its kimchi that we were brought to the place where they made it and got first hand experience on how to do it ourselves.Everything was prepared for us,we just had to spread the chilli paste. After that,we got to take photos in the tradition Korean costumes. Not everyone did that, only a few of us.Everyone said granny looked the nicest, cutest and the most similar to a Korean than all of us.

Heard of the Nanta Show?It is a musical show using knives and other kitchen utensils. We were late 10 minutes for the show but we still had a great time and good laugh.
The synopsis
