Char Bee Teh

Char bee teh..fried rice tea (direct translation)

This is one the 'traditional' dish my grandmother
will prepare.Something different from what we eat nowadays. But i heard from my grandmother that one can buy it in Johor (i haven't been there so

1) Three kinds of fried veges. The first two are just vege while the last one is with dried shrimp.

2) Peanuts and sesame seeds.

3) Pickled vege (i think...)

4) Boiled beans.

These are all the cooked things for the dish.

Finally..the 'tea'.It is made from different types of mints (are there many types of mint?).According to my grandmother, the tea she made today has 7 types of mint.

This is the different types of mint, all chopped up and later blended before adding it with tea.

This is how the 'tea' looks like..Doesn't look that nice right? But wait till you taste it..

How is this eaten?

First, pour in the fried rice (rice crispy) and then add all the cooked things.

After that, pour in the hot 'tea'..

The smell of the different types of mint...the minty taste, don't have to worry about it being very bitter cos the veges somehow lessen it...the soaked rice crispy in the hot 'tea'...the crunch from the peanut in between the veges and soaked rice...the slight salty taste from veges and dried shrimp...the boiled beans...Combine all and it is SUPERB!

Two thumbs up for this dish..How can it not be when almost everyone in my family loves it and will go for second round.Proves my grandmother has...(green fingers for plants..for food?)..Well,whatever it is then.

There is another thing that she prepares which is really nice. Will blog about it when i have the chance to snap some photos (without the photos..don't think you all will know what i am talking about.Haha!)
