The 'kepos'

I went back to Lunas yesterday because had to help out with the prayers today. One of the things that we had to do was 'chang'.

'Chang'...glutenous rice + pieces of seasoned pork + 'lak chi' + mushroom + salted egg yolk + dried prawns...all wrapped in a type of leave. There are two types of 'chang'...salty..sweet and salty.I think most people prefer the salty ones but as for me...the sweet and salty is the best.

'Kepos' means busybodies...

My uncle helps to catch thieves in the area.He is not a policeman.Something like RELA.So,especially at night,he walks around with a walkie-talkie at home.Whenever the phone rings and there are robbery anywhere around,he will contact those people who are also involve to the scene.Yesterday night,he received a call and after contacting the people,he went out on his bike.My aunt who is his wife, heard the call, told my mum about it and decided they wanted to go and have a look.My sister asked if i wanted to go...and do you think i would want to miss the fun and adventure? So,there went the four 'kepos'.Usually we know about the calls and would ask if we can follow but he will never let us.This time we kept it a secret.

When we reach the place, there were many people outside the house. Some of them were behind the house and some in front..each holding a stick and torchlight. We stopped on the opposite lane so that my uncle will not spot us.Then came the police. They went into the house and came out after a short while with nothing. So we guessed that the robber had ran off.True enough because we could see people checking the area from the roof and there was no one.

Disappointment....We went home after that. When my uncle came home,we asked him about it and he didn't believe that we were there until we could describe the scene. He said that the robber had gone off and that everything precious in the house was gone. So,the owner can only report it to the police.

It was quite an experience watching it...and would have been better if the rober was caught. But then...what to do.Next time, next time...
